Catoosa County detectives are investigating a theft case in which a handgun was stolen from a vehicle on Ed Winters Lane in Ringgold.

According to the Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to an entering auto call on Feb. 14, at which time the victim reported his .38-caliber Rossi Special handgun had been taken from the vehicle.

The victim told police someone came onto his property and stole the firearm from his truck and that he believes the theft occurred on Feb. 9 while he was at lunch with friends.

The victim admitted that the truck was left unlocked during the time of incident.

The vehicle wasn't damaged in any way, and the gun was the only thing missing, reports show.

Detectives were able to obtain the serial number information for the weapon, and extra patrol was placed in the neighborhood.
