The community recently lost one of its finest when long-time Catoosa County Sheriff's Deputy Tyler Morton passed away due to medical complications of an illness.
Tyler Lynn Morton, 32, died Thursday, Dec. 21 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.
Morton was a beloved father, husband, friend, and public servant who was in his 11th year with the Sheriff's Department, having worked there since 2006.
"Deputy Morton was not only an employee, but a friend who was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed," said Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk. "The Sheriff's Office is in mourning and praying for his family and we ask that the community do that same. The outpouring of condolences is appreciated."
According to his obituary, Morton, a 2004 graduate of Ringgold High School, was a life-long resident of Ringgold and the Rock Spring community whose biggest passion in life was his family.
Morton is survived by his wife of 10 years, Janel Morton; son, Chance Morton; daughter, Ella Morton; parents, Rick and Susan Morton, and brothers Kyle and Ryley Morton.
In a press release regarding Morton, Sheriff Sisk said his office would continue to support the family's needs during this time.
"Right now, the family is just trying to get through this difficult time and the holiday season," Sisk said. "I am sure there will be future needs, and as they arise, we will come together in support of our brother's family."
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 27 at Parkway Baptist Tabernacle with Pastor Joe Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Heritage Funeral Home on Battlefield Parkway.
