Local residents will have the chance for fellowship and conversation on Wednesday, Oct. 4, as members of local law enforcement agencies will be participating in "Coffee with a Cop" events.
The event, which originated with the Hawthorne, Calif., Police Department in 2011, was designed to give the public the opportunity to chat with their local police officers over a cup of joe so law enforcement could better understand the needs and concerns of the community.
So far, the Ringgold and Fort Oglethorpe police departments have plans to participate in the event.
Ringgold PD will hold its event at the McDonald's on Ga. Highway 151 (Alabama Highway) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while Fort Oglethorpe PD will host its event at the Chick-Fil-A on Battlefield Parkway from 9 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.
Ringgold Police Chief Dan Bilbrey says the event is a good way for officers to connect with residents about any and everything going on in the community.
"We've partnered with McDonald's for the event, and we're looking forward to our officers being out there," Bilbrey said.
As far as the conversation goes, Bilbrey says it'll be an open platform for residents.
"Whatever anybody wants to talk about, we're there for dialogue," he said. "Whether we talk about cars, the weather, or media, it'll be a chance to hear anything they (the public) has to say."
