The city of Fort Oglethorpe has partnered with the city's Tourism Association for Christmas at the Post, which combines Christmas market vendors of gifts, arts, crafts, décor, services and food, Christmas music and pictures, with Santa and the annual Christmas parade for a family festival on Barnhardt Circle’s Polo Field.
The expanded holiday festival is Saturday, Dec. 9, beginning at 4 p.m., with the parade at 6 p.m., followed by fireworks, holiday music and visits with Santa.
"The best place to see the parade and enjoy all the family fun festivities is on the Polo Field where parking is free. So come early, shop, eat, enjoy the parade and make new Christmas memories with your family," said City Councilwoman Paula Stinnett. "This is the first time in the history of the city’s parade that we’ve had a Christmas market and fireworks, you won’t want to miss it."
The theme for this year’s parade is "The Christmas Express," with prizes awarded for the best theme related, most creative and best decorated float. There is no fee to participate in the parade but all parade entries need to submit a parade application. Event organizers ask everyone to bring unwrapped toys for Catoosa County Stockings Full of Love. Hometown favorite James Rogers is this year’s parade grand marshal.
