Georgia State Patrol Post 41 is investigating a fatal vehicular accident in which a man was hit while laying in the roadway early Thursday morning in Chickamauga.

According to Post 41, on Thursday, Aug. 3, around 2:45 a.m., GSP was dispatched to a pedestrian fatality on Marble Top Road near Kendrick Switch Road.

A previous 911 call was reported by a woman heading south on Marble Top Road, where she said she almost hit a man laying in the roadway.

A driver of a Mazda Wagon was traveling north on Marble Top Road, negotiating a curve, when the driver struck a man wearing dark clothing laying in the roadway.

The driver immediately stopped the vehicle and called Walker County 911.

Raymond Lee Holloway, 44 of Chickamauga, was being treated at the scene and then transported to Cornerstone Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe.

Holloway died of injuries sustained while en route to the hospital.

GSP said it is unknown why Holloway was laying in the roadway. It is also unknown if Holloway was under the influence.
