Long-time community leader Jeff Long was recently named Patriotic Citizen of the Year by the Catoosa County Citizens' and Veterans' Memorial.

Long, who pulls double duty as director of Fort Oglethorpe's Public Works and Recreation and serves on the county Board of Commissioners, was presented his award by Memorial President Yvonne Morgan during a Fort Oglethorpe City Council meeting on Nov. 13.

"Annually, we have an event where we honor a Veteran of the Year and Patriotic Citizen of the Year," Morgan said. "This is a two-county event for Catoosa and Walker. Jeff has been nominated and has served on the Catoosa County Board of Commissioners since 2011. He's worked in the city and the county for 22 years managing Public Works and Recreation. He works endlessly for the better of Catoosa County."

Morgan said Long contributes so much to the community, and does so in a quiet, humble fashion.

"What he does we all take for granted," Morgan said. "This is very special for me. ... For outstanding community service, we recognize Mr. Jeff Long, who has a part in everything that you see in our community."

"Thank you very much," Long said after receiving the award. "It means a lot to be chosen for this and I appreciate it."
