Catoosa County detectives are investigating a burglary in which someone stole an AR 15 rifle and magazines, police say.

According to the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred early Monday morning, Nov. 6 at a residence on Pinto Lane.

Deputies were called out the residence around 12:30 a.m. regarding the theft, which occurred while the resident was hanging out a few houses down.

The victim told police he left the residence on foot to visit a friend and returned to find that his vehicle and home had been burglarized.

"He stated that he noticed the small back window on his vehicle had been busted out and that his AR 15 had been taken," Deputy Keith Cantrell said. "He stated that they also entered is residence and went into a room and stole the extra magazine to the gun."

The victim told police that whoever stole the gun had to know what they were looking for because there was money in the vehicle that wasn't taken.

Anyone with information about the missing weapon or the incident is encouraged to contact the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department at 706-935-2424.
