“Dog Days of Summer” Dog & Family Friendly Event. 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Calhoun Rec Park (McDaniel Station Road). Vendors, demos and contests. There will be a $5 entry fee per dog for each contest. All money raised from the contests will benefit the Gordon County Animal Shelter. Donations will be collected for both the city and county animal shelters. More Info: www.calhounrec.com

Gordon Hospital Back to School Blast. 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Sonoraville Rec Complex. This free event is for all local public, private and homeschool students in grades Pre-K through 12. Local schools and organizations will give out information, free backpacks and a variety of school supplies will also be distributed while supplies last. Children must be present with an adult to receive supplies. There will also be two inflatables, entertainment by DJ Donny Holmes, and the annual Calhoun Outlet Marketplace back-to-school fashion show, featuring local students showcasing the latest trends, at 4:30 p.m. In addition to back to school information, attendees will receive child-friendly health information on subjects such as the proper amount of sleep and nutrition. Saturdays, July 29 & August 5

Calhoun’s Got Talent, 7 p.m. at the Harris Arts Center. Calhoun’s ever-popular talent show is back! Come see acts of all types perform in this unforgettable contest of skill and talent! The fate of the contestants lies in the hands of the audience and the judges. Popular votes and the decision of the judges will send a group of finalists to the second show, where two winners will each receive a $750 prize. Be there to cast your vote!
