For the second time, the Gordon County Board of Commissioners denied an application from Zahid Rashid for RNR, Calhoun, Inc. to sell alcohol from his store near the Sonoraville Recreation Department due to the proximity of the property to the recreation department.
At the heart of the issue was how the ordinance was interpreted. Although the survey showed more than a 1,000 feet from door to door, other measurements indicated less than 1,000 feet between different areas of the properties, including the skate park and ball fields. Because the ball fields are routinely used by Gordon County Schools, the Board maintained their earlier ruling.
In other Board news, the Board approved:
An agreement with Sugar Valley Baptist Church for a voting precinct.
A declaration of surplus property from the landfill for 2003 Dresser TD20H Dozer and a 2001 Komatsu D61EX.
An application from Crane Eater Community Church for a 5k and 10k road race.

Special called meeting to set the millage rate on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017 at 6 p.m.
Regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at 6 p.m.
