According to a preliminary report provided by the Georgia State Patrol, a wreck along State Route 61/Highway 411 in the Fairmount area Tuesday night injured two people, resulting in both being airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9. According to GSP, a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, driven by Connie Francis Nix, 21, of Fairmount, was traveling northbound on SR61/411 in the right lane. The vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder, then made an abrupt left turn and began to yaw or skid, while traveling across the left northbound lane and then the southbound lane, exiting the west side of the roadway. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and struck a ditch with its right side tire, causing the vehicle to vault into the air. The vehicle then struck a large tree with its roof area, above the rear seats.

Nix and her passenger, Justin Lee Jenkins, 32, were both airlifted to Erlanger and their condition is unknown at press time. GSP is still investigating the crash.
