A Sunday afternoon wreck resulted in the death of a 19-year-old Sugar Valley man.
According to a preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol, at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31, a 1979 Toyota pickup was traveling in the eastbound lane fn Pocket Road NW in Sugar Valley, just west of Mountain Loop Road NW. The pickup, driven by 19-year-old Michael Blake, traveled off the right side of the roadway and began to rotate. It struck a mailbox, a culvert and a tree, coming to a final uncontrolled rest in an upright position.
Blake was totally ejected from the vehicle and transported by Lifeforce to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he succumbed to the injuries he sustained.
A passenger in the truck, identified as 21-year-old Chandler Pelfrey of Sugar Valley, was also injured and transported by ground ambulance to Floyd Medical Center.
Both occupants, according to GSP, were unrestrained. The investigation is ongoing.
