The Calhoun Blue Barracudas made the long drive to Tifton last weekend to compete in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Class B/C State Swim Meet, and the long drive back was certainly a happy one.

The Blue Barracudas scored 548 points combined between the girls and boys teams to win the GRPA Team State Championship, defeating second-place Oconee County Parks and Rec by 25 points. The Blue Barracudas boys’ team also finished atop the leaderboard with 272 points to earn the first-place finish, narrowly edging out Oconee County by six points.

The Blue Barracudas girls’ team had a solid showing as well, compiling 192 points to finish fourth.

Barracudas head coach Mike Beeler said he was extremely pleased with how his swimmers performed not only at State, but all Summer long during their season.

“I cannot express how proud I am of these swimmers,” said Beeler. “We had an undefeated Dual Meet season at 8-0, won our District for the fourth year in a row, the boys team defended and repeated their State Title, and the girls fourth-place finish added in to win the Combined Title. It is really great to see the endless hours they practice pay off.”

The Blue Barracudas swim out of the Calhoun Recreation Department and also won their division of the Chattanooga Area Swim League.
