Recently, the Calhoun Cross Country program honored its rich history with a celebration of 50 years of cross country at their home meet at New Echota on Sept. 21.
All runners that had been a part of previous teams were invited to a reunion and meet and greet, which included the program’s original head coach Lynn Walter. Walter was recently inducted into the Calhoun-Gordon County Sports Hall of Fame in August.
Several former runners made the trip back to celebrate, commemorate the occasion and cheer on the current Calhoun girls and boys teams, who went on to sweep the team results in both races that day.
Pictured in the photo are some of the attendees of the meet and greet, including Brad Jones (from left), Walter, Unique Sardeneta, former head coach and current assistant coach Raymond Hobby, Mili Galvan and Jennifer Baggett. Jones was a part of the program in the early 1990s, and Sardeneta, Galvan and Baggett all ran for the girls’ team in the past 10 years.
