-The Ashworth wrestling team wrapped up its season with a trip to the Floyd County Athletic Association (FCAA) Region Tournament this past Saturday, Jan. 13 at Armuchee High School.
The Warriors finished fourth out of nine teams, racking up a total score of 155 points.
Individually, Kevin Payne, Paul Guerrero and Brock Shellhouse were all crowned region champs. Anthony Temple, Jeffery House, Samar King, Jose Cardoza and Diego Gutierrez placed third. Justin Correll and Isaac Campazano each placed fourth. Additionally, Noah Tinch, Micah Stanfield, Jordan Smith and Wesley Phipps all registered points for the Warriors.
-The Calhoun Yellow Jackets took home a second-place finish in the Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association (BGMSAA) Duals Championship on Saturday that took place at Red Bud Middle School.
-The Red Bud Lady Lady Phoenix fell 39-37 in a competitive contest against the Cartersville Lady Hurricanes on Saturday, Jan 6. Madison Abernathy shouldered the majority of the offensive load, scoring 17. Grace Crocker tacked on six. The junior varsity girls kept its momentum rolling by picking up a 27-20 win.
-The Red Bud girls varsity basketball team bounced back and collected a 37-29 victory over the Cass Lady Colonels on Thursday, Jan. 11. Kierra McAfee led the way for the Lady Phoenix with 11 points, with Olyvia Hopper chipping in nine. The team’s region record now stands at 5-3. The junior varsity improved its record to 6-1 with a 31-13 win.
-The Red Bud varsity boys squad suffered a narrow loss to the Cartersville Hurricanes 44-34. Tyler Johns led all scorers with 12 points. Dustin Fortenberry, Zach Lyles and Brant Bryant each netted six points. The junior varsity dominated the Hurricanes 45-25.
-The Phoenix also dropped a tough game to the Colonels 57-26 in the past week. Bryant scored a team-high 10 points, with Christian Roberts pitching in six. The junior varsity did find success against Cass, defeating the opposition 42-27.
-The Ashworth Lady Warriors varsity team snagged a crucial seven-point victory over the Pepperell Lady Dragons last Saturday. The Warriors were also able to take out the Dragons by knocking down a clutch basket with six seconds left on the clock to secure a 32-21 win. The junior varsity girls team rounded out the successful outing by earning a 10-point victory over its opponents.
