Three teams from Calhoun-based CrossFit Oscar Mike took the podium at the Festivus Games which was recently hosted in Woodstock, Ga.
The Festivus Games is a functional-fitness competition with four workouts that was hosted worldwide on Saturday, Oct. 14 at various locations for beginner and intermediate athletes.
In the women’s novice division, Dolly Baker and Tiffany Garland took first place, while also ranking fourth worldwide for the first fitness event and in the top 100 overall. Heather Lessis and Erica Lee placed third in the same division, and ranked 16th worldwide in the deadlift event.
Frank Gurrieri and Erick Friday took second place in a competitive race to win the men’s intermediate division. They also finished 94th in the deadlift event and placed 129th worldwide.
“Our whole gym could not be more pleased with how our teams represented us at the Festivus Games,” CrossFit Oscar Mike owner and coach Matthew Lessis said. “Their hard work absolutely paid off, but I’m especially proud of the example they set for our members and their commitment to having fun while working out.”
Lessis explained that CrossFit is much more than what you see at a competition.
“CrossFit is a fitness regimen that anyone can do,” he added. “We believe that taking part in CrossFit at least three days a week can treat and prevent chronic disease symptoms, improve your mood and stabilize your overall wellness. It’s our personal mission at CrossFit Oscar Mike to engage people in our encouraging community that supports everyone’s wellness goals and personal achievements.”
