The Calhoun Recreation Department youth football season recently came to an end as champions were crowned in each age division. Grant Walraven, who coaches in the 9-10 division, was also recently honored at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association conference awards banquet at the NWG Trade Center in Dalton as he received one of the GRPA Volunteer of the Year Awards. In the top picture, Walraven (right) accepts the award from GRPA president Michael Brantley (center) along with Calhoun Rec Director Kim Townsend. Walraven has volunteered for 29 years at the Calhoun Rec Department as a youth football coach. He has been very active in the GRPA District and State football program. During this time his team has advanced to GRPA State football finals each year and has won two GRPA State Football Championships in the 9-10 division.
The youth football division champions from this year are also pictured -- the 7-8 year old Jackets, the 9-10 year old Falcons and the 11-12 year old Bulldogs.
