School athletic programs are always searching for ways to maximize the budgets they have in order to give their students opportunities to participate in team sports. They are often stretched to ensure they can cover equipment and travel costs, while finding ways to help some kids participate whose families may not have the means. Whatever the case, it always helps when programs in need receive help they did not immediately expect.
On February 26, six area schools were on hand at the Calhoun Tennis Center to receive donations from the local tennis organization. The Sequoyah Tennis Association donated a total of $3000 to the tennis programs at Calhoun High School, Gordon Central High School, Sonoraville High School, Calhoun Middle School, Ashworth Middle School and Sonoraville Middle School.
Coaches and players from each school were on hand for the check presentations and photo opportunities with members of Sequoyah.
The Sequoyah Tennis Association has been in existence since 2005, with the mission to promote the development of tennis as a means of healthful recreation and physical fitness for all of Calhoun/Gordon County residents.
