The Calhoun Blue Barracudas swim team completed a stellar summer season recently with some great finishes at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Meet in Tifton.

In all, the Barracudas won 16 state titles, had 15 runner-up finishes, 10 third-place finishes and 29 other top-eight finishes combined.

As a team, the Barracudas finished third in the total standings combined between the boys and girls teams. The boys finished first, and the girls took fourth. That followed a first-place finish at the GRPA District 5 Meet at the Calhoun Rec Dept., which included 43 first-place finishes out of 90 total events.

Along with their first-place event finishes at the State Meet, they also set three state recordsy, including the 11-12 mixed medley relay (2:24:54), the 15-18 boys freestyle relay (1:40.02) and the 15-18 boys medley relay (1:30.54).

First-place finishes at State included: Brandon Webb in the boys 9-10 100-yard IM (1:18.47) and boys 9-10 25 yard butterfly (15.12), Mason Hunter in the boys 15-18 100-yard freestyle (48.76) and boys 50-yard breaststroke, Jacob Tolson, Colin Wood, Ryan Hood and Matthew Petty in the boys 12-under 200-yard medley relay (2:17.34), Zoe Tibbs, Phoebe Reid, Reece Hood and Gannon Hood in the mixed 12-under 200-yard medley relay (2:24.54), Mason Hunter, Cal Parker, Caleb Black and Joe Kauffman in the boys 18-under 200 yard medley relay (1:40.02), Matthew Petty in the boys 11-12 50-yard freestyle (28.18), Alice Workman in the girls 13-14 50-yard freestyle (25.62) and girls 13-14 50-yard butterfly (27.95), Ryan Hood in the boys 11-12 100-yard IM (1:15.46), Cal Parker in the boys 15-18 100-yard IM (54.96), Caleb Black in the boys 15-18 50-yard backstroke (26.94), Matthew Petty, Jacob Tolson, Reece Hood and Ryan Hood in the boys 12-under 200-yard freestyle relay (2:01.31), Joshua Tolson, Brody Bushong, Bryce Bates and Jeremiah Petty in the boys 14-under 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.87) and Cal Parker, Caleb Black, Joe Kauffman and Mason Hunter in the boys 18-under 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.86).

The team is coached by Mike Beeler, Christy Garcia and Cody Workman and competes out of the Calhoun Recreation Department.
