Calhoun's Shawnda Martin (seated, third from left) signed a softball scholarship with Georgia College (Milledgeville, Ga.) last Wednesday.

Martin said of the signing: "This means a lot. Every girl that has played softball wants the opportunity to play in college, and it makes me so happy to achieve that. (Georgia College) is like home. It's not too far, but not too close. And the hospitality is great. It just felt right. I'm very ready to get down there. I'm ready to start a new journey."

Also attending the signing were: grandmother Frances Martin (front row, from left), father Shawn Martin, mother Rhonda Martin, sister Cailey Martin, grandmother Faye Masburn, travel team coach Mike Leonard (back row, from left), Gordon Central softball coach Chris Stephens and Co-owner of The Yard indoor hitting facility Kip Connally.
