It was a special night at Sonoraville on Friday as the school’s first-ever team state champion was recognized in front of the home fans.

The Sonoraville wrestling team was honored at halftime of the Sonoraville-Cedar Grove girls state tournament first-round game after the Firebirds’ incredible trip to Macon the previous weekend, which resulted in the Class AAA Traditional Tournament team state championship.

Sonoraville head coach Randy Steward was introduced individually along with the eight individual state placers the team boasted, including state champs Tyler Hunt (132), Trevor Burdick (138) and Eli Knight (106) and state runner-up John Knight (195). The rest of the team and assistant coaches then joined them as they crowd showed their appreciation for the hard work they put in this season to make history for the school. The team and their families were then treated to a special reception afterwards.
