It wasn’t an ideal day for tennis on Tuesday afternoon with a wind chill in the low 30s and snow flurries falling, but that didn’t hinder the Calhoun boys and girls teams from picking up three wins apiece, including one over their crosstown rival.

The Jackets and Lady Jackets hosted Sonoraville, Haralson County and North Murray at the Calhoun Tennis Center and swept the competition to each go 3-0 on the day, winning each match 5-0.

The action started with Calhoun taking on Sonoraville. The Calhoun boys won 5-0, getting wins from Cameron LeBoeuf (No. 1), Luke McKenzie (No. 2) and Coen Marcus (No. 3) in singles matches. The doubles matches were competitive both ways with Calhoun’s No. 1 team of Matthew Turner and Aaron Lively getting a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sonoraville’s Noah Gibbs and Jacob Rickett, and the Jackets’ No. 2 team of Rucker Reeves and Matthew McCanless battling past Sonoraville’s Trent Holley and John Lister.

The Lady Jacket also won 5-0 over Sonoraville, earning straight-set wins in singles matches from McCartney Kessler (No. 1), Carly Briggs (No. 2) and Marlee Nichelson (No. 3) and getting doubles wins from the team of Jalen Holland and Emma King (No. 1) and Molly Mashburn and Sammy Bramlett (No. 2).

The Calhoun boys kept the momentum going with a 5-0 win over Haralson County as the same singles lineup of LeBoeuf (No. 1), McKenzie (No. 2) and Marcus (No. 3) and the doubles teams of Reeves and Hunter Hartsfield (No. 1) and Luke Peden and Dawson Williams (No. 2) earning convincing wins.

They finished the day with a 5-0 win over North Murray to move to 6-1 on the season. LeBoeuf (No. 1), McKenzie (No. 2) and Marcus (No. 3) once again swept the singles matches, and the No. 1 team of Lively and Turner and the No. 2 team of Williams and Cade Ford finishing the scoring with victories.

Calhoun’s girls team defeated North Murray 5-0 with singles wins from Kessler (No. 1), Briggs (No. 2) and Nichelson (No. 3), and the No. 1 team of Holland and King and the No. 2 team of Mashburn and Neeley Abernathy earning victories. Mashburn and Abernathy rallied from an early deficit in their match to win 8-5 in a pro set.

The Lady Jackets shook up the lineup for their final match of the day but came away with the same result, defeating Haralson County 5-0. Kessler (No. 1) and Briggs (No. 2) earned singles wins as well as King, who won at No. 3 singles. Nichelson and Bramlett won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Tori Parker and Shanna Lee won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Phoenix bounced back with a 4-1 win over Haralson County after their initial loss on Wednesday as well.

Calhoun, who were both coming off 2-1 records at the LaGrange Tournament last weekend against some stiff competition, will be back home on Monday to host Coahulla Creek at 4:30 p.m.

Sonoraville is on the road again on Wednesday at Bremen. They next visit LFO on March 23.
