Every prep softball team’s goal in the state of Georgia when they start the season in August is to be playing in Columbus in late October.

This week that goal will become a reality for two local squads as Calhoun and Sonoraville will both make the trip to compete in the Class AAA Elite Eight. For the Lady Jackets, it is their fifth straight trip to Columbus, and the Lady Phoenix are there for the second time after also making an appearance in 2015.

The action gets underway on Thursday with both teams taking the field at 5 p.m. Calhoun will square off with Rutland in their first game and Sonoraville will battle Worth County to kick things off.
