Gordon Central battled to stay in the game, but Cherokee County was too much down the stretch to send the Warriors to a tough loss on Monday night.

The Warriors (0-3) pulled within seven at 38-31 in the third quarter, but Cherokee County responded by going on a 10-0 run to push the lead back to 17 and essentially out of reach.

Quan Curtis led Gordon Central with 15 points, and Gabe Ross added 13. Turner Mathis was the third Warriors’ player in double figures with 10, and Quinton Lockett contributed eight.

Kyle Burgess scored a game-high 20 to lead Cherokee County. Luke Goss also had a big night with 17.

The Warriors will return to the court on Tuesday with a non-region test at Gordon Lee at 7:30 p.m.
