Sonoraville boys 73, Pickens 55

The Phoenix turned up the offensive output in the second half on Saturday to pull away for a non-region victory at home.

Sonoraville (17-3) led 31-30 at the break before getting hot to outscore the visiting Dragons 24-16 in the third quarter and 18-9 in the fourth.

Wil Walraven had a huge day for the Phoenix with a game-high 36 points, including hitting five 3-pointers. Trent Daniel added 15 points, Chris Rush had 12 and Lucas Brooks chipped in 10.

Sonoraville is back on the road on Tuesday to visit Haralson County at 7:30 p.m.

Pickens girls 60, Sonoraville 51

Sonoraville had a bit of an offensive lull in the second and third quarters on Saturday and that cost them in a non-region home loss on Saturday.

The Lady Phoenix (13-5) led 17-12 after the first quarter but were outscored 35-18 over the next two periods to allow Pickens to build a solid lead of 47-35 at the end of the third, and Sonoraville couldn’t overcome the deficit in the fourth.

Maliyah Parks had a team-high 16 points for Sonoraville. Grace Darnell was also in double figures with 10, and Alexa Geary added seven.

The Lady Phoenix visit Haralson County on Tuesday for a big subregion showdown at 6 p.m.
