The Sonoraville Phoenix built a steady lead and finished the game strong in the fourth quarter to earn a Region 6-AAA crossover win and stay unbeaten early in the season.
The Phoenix led 32-29 at the half and 46-39 going to the fourth quarter but outscored Murray County 24-12 in the final period to earn a 70-51 victory. Sonoraville (5-0) was led by Wil Walraven, who continued his strong start to the season, with 29 points.
Lucas Brooks added 16, and Seth Harkins scored nine.
The Phoenix were back at home on Friday to host LFO. (For details on that game, see Wednesday’s Calhoun Times.) They will host Armuchee on Saturday 4:30 p.m. in a non-region test.

Sonoraville girls 46, Murray County 34
The Lady Phoenix used another stifling defensive effort and was clutch from the free throw line to earn a region crossover win on the road on Tuesday
Sonoraville (3-2) held Murray County to just five points in the opening quarter to build a 15-5 lead and then finished the game by limiting them to six points in the fourth and put the game away. They also had a stellar night from the free throw line going 13-of-15.
Grace Darnell led the Lady Phoenix with 17 points, hitting three 3s. Maliyah Parks added 15.
Sonoraville was back at home on Friday for another 6-AAA crossover matchup against LFO. (For details on that game, see Wednesday’s Calhoun Times.) They are at home on Saturday to face Armuchee with 3 p.m.
Coahulla Creek girls 77, Calhoun 59
The Lady Jackets fell behind big early and could never recover in a road loss on Tuesday in Region 6-AAA crossover action.
The Lady Colts took a 14-7 lead after the first quarter and led 41-24 at the half. Calhoun (0-2) got within 10 at 52-42 to start the fourth, but Coahulla Creek outscored them 25-17 in the fourth to finish the game off.
Erin Davis led Calhoun with 15 points. She also had five assists and three steals. Maggie McBrayer scored 10 and had eight rebounds, and Erin Kelly had 10 points as well. Railey Greeson added eight points.
Calhoun is on the road on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a non-region contest.
