The Lady Warriors have gotten off to a strong start this season, but they got their most important win yet on Tuesday night as they outlasted Dade County for a big Region 7-AA victory in overtime.
Gordon Central (4-2, 1-1) trailed 33-29 at the half and 46-41 going to the fourth quarter but battled back in the final period to score 21 points in the period and force the extra session. They then scored seven in overtime, including five from freshman Mercedes Coleman to squeak out the hard-fought, one-point win.
Coleman continued her outstanding start to her high school career with a game-high 38 points, including six 3-pointers. Olivia Fleming and Lelia Culberson each added eight points, and Cheyenne Temple scored seven.
The Lady Warriors visit Rockmart for another region showdown on Friday at 7 p.m.
