Sonoraville 12, Chattooga 2

The Phoenix had a big offensive day to open their season with a dominant mercy-rule shortened victory in non-region action on Wednesday.

Sonoraville (1-0) racked up 12 hits in the contest, which was played at Lakepoint after being pushed back from Tuesday due to wet field conditions at Sonoraville. Leading the effort at the plate was Tyler Lyles, who went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and four RBIs. Wyatt Castoe also had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Matthew Vincent had a double and three RBIs.

Other offensive contributors for Sonoraville were Chase Kirby with two hits and three runs scored, Storm Carnes with a hit and an RBI, Beau Bullard with a hit and two runs scored and Avery Hopper with a hit and a run scored.

The Phoenix used two pitchers in the game Hopper going 2 2-3 innings and giving up two runs on three hits while striking out three. Castoe came in to work the final 2 1-3 innings of shutout relief as he didn’t allow a hit and struck out three.

Sonoraville will be on the road next Friday (Feb. 23) to take on Dalton in another non-region contest at 5 p.m.
