Sonoraville's Strickland signs to play golf at GNTC (Larry Greeson, For the Calhoun Times)

Sonoraville High senior Lane Strickland (front row, center) signed a golf scholarship with Georgia Northwestern Technical College on Thursday.

Strickland said of the signing: “I’ve been working toward playing college golf since I was in the sixth grade. It’s always been a dream, and to get this opportunity is very exciting. The biggest part of why I picked GNTC is Coach (Eddie) Jackson. He is very nice and has helped me tremendously through this whole process. It’s a two-year school so I can go and get all my general studies taken care of and hopefully, I’ll get the opportunity to transfer and play golf at a bigger school. It’s going to be a big learning experience starting college and playing golf on the college level. I’ve played a lot of golf the last few years in a lot of tournaments, but this will be another level. I’ll have to learn how to deal with that pressure. But I feel like I’m pretty ready for that and can handle it. I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Also attending the signing were: Mother Misty Strickland (front row, from left), father Joey Strickland, Sonoraville High principal Bruce Potts (back row, from left), Sonoraville High athletic director Brent Mashburn, Sonoraville High head golf coach Michael Farley, Georgia Northwestern Technical College head golf coach Eddie Jackson and Sonoraville High assistant golf coach Cody Townsend.
