Sonoraville High senior Clara Hulsey (front row, second from right) signed a golf scholarship with the Lee University (Cleveland, Tenn.) on Friday.
Hulsey said of the signing: “Thankful doesn’t even describe how I feel. It’s always been a dream to play college golf, and I’ve worked so hard and had so many obstacles to overcome to get there. I’m excited, and I couldn’t have picked a better school to go to. I’m thankful for the opportunity, and I’m thankful for everyone that came today to celebrate this with me. (Lee) travels a lot, and I want to see a lot of different places and playing golf while doing it sounds great to me. They give you a lot of opportunities to play all over the place, and their golf program is fantastic. They are consistently in the top 10 in NCAA Division II. The coaches and players are great there also. I think going to Lee will help shape me as a person and a golfer. I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I want time to slow down a little for my last few months of high school, and I love everyone here, but I know I’m excited to start something new and meet new people. I’m ready for my last high school season too. I’m going to go for it this year and be aggressive.”
Also attending the signing were: Sister Catie Hulsey (front row, from left), mother Becky Hulsey, father Barry Hulsey, Sonoraville High principal Bruce Potts (standing, from left), former Red Bud Middle coach Matt Fox, Sonoraville High head boys golf coach Michael Farley, Sonoraville High assistant golf coach Cody Townsend, Sonoraville High head girls golf coach Kim Turner, Former Red Bud Middle golf coach Ricky Wilson and Sonoraville High athletic director Brent Mashburn.
