Gordon Central High senior Cam WIlliams (seated, center) signed a football scholarship with Bethany College (Bethany, West Va.) on Thursday.

Williams said of the signing: “It’s a blessing to get the chance to play on the next level because there are a lot of people that don’t get that chance. And to have the grades to do it too, I’m blessed. I’m excited I get to experience college and play football at the same time. Bethany has really good academics, and the student-to-teacher ratio is small so you get one-on-one time in your classes. The football program there is building too so I look forward to being a part of that. The college is kind of in the middle of nowhere so I think that will be good for me. I’m ready to take that next step in my life to start college. I’m nervous because it will be the first time I’ve really been away from home, but I’m ready for it. I’m just waiting on graduation now and getting everything in high school over with so I can move on to the next chapter.”

Also attending the signing were: (front row, left) mother Cynthia Williams, father Derrick Williams, (back row, from left) Gordon Central High principal Doug Clark, Gordon Central High athletic director Matt Swanson, Gordon Central High head football coach Cory Nix, Gordon Central High assistant principal Jeff Shattuck and Gordon Central High assistant principal Marne Wilson.
