Calhoun High senior McCartney Kessler (front row, second from right) signed a tennis scholarship with the University of Florida (Gainesville, Fla.) on Wednesday.
Kessler said of the signing: “It’s really exciting. I’m going to be joining my brother (McClain) down there, and I have lots of friends on the team. I can’t wait to get down there and get started. My grandfather played football at Florida, and my whole family has always been Gator fans so that’s where I wanted to go. The tennis program is great, and I really like the coaches too. They have built a championship tradition and history so I wanted to be a part of that. I’ll be starting in January so it’s exciting that it’s almost here. I’ve just been practicing a lot to get ready, and I’m ready for that next challenge.”
Also attending the signing were: Grandmother Shirley Driggers (front row, from left), mother Julie Kessler, father Carl Kessler, Calhoun High principal Peter Coombe (back row, from left), Calhoun High tennis coach Brian Proffitt, Calhoun High tennis coach Robin Proffitt, coach Stephen Diaz, Calhoun High tennis coach Lynn Davis, Calhoun High athletic director Hal Lamb and coach Brent Molyneux.
