Investigators with the Georgia State Patrol’s SCRT team are still looking into a fatal accident on Highway 156 / Red Bud Road that occurred Sunday afternoon.
According to Sgt. 1st Class Ritchie Harris with the GSP, a response was made shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday to the accident involving two vehicles. A 2000 Buick LeSabre, driven by Rocky Stone, was driving west on what GSP referred to as a “wet” Red Bud Road around the time the area received a steady rain. Stone had two children in his vehicle at the time. Stone hydroplaned and lost control of his vehicle, rotating counter-clockwise into the east bound lane, striking a 2006 Ford F-250 that was traveling east. The Ford hit the Buick in the rear of the passenger side, redirecting the Buick clockwise. The Buick left the roadway and struck an embankment with the rear of the driver’s side, coming to rest in a ditch on the south side of the road.
The Ford came to a rest in the ditch facing east on the south side of the road.
Stone was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The two children were transported by ground ambulance to Gordon Hospital, where the younger male was immediately transferred to T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn. critical condition, and the female passenger was transported to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn. in stable condition.
The driver of the Ford, a male, did not report any injuries. A female passenger in the Ford was transported by ground ambulance to Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome in stable condition.
The investigation continues this morning.
