Tony “Tubby” Chastain
Tony “Tubby” Chastain, 62, of Oakman, died Monday, June 5, 2017 at Floyd Medical Center. He was born in Gordon County on Aug. 6, 1954, son of the late Harvey and Stella Chastain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Silvers; a nephew, Dewayne Chastain; and a great-nephew, Andrew Silvers.
Tubby attended Fairmount Schools. He loved his motorcycles and working on old cars.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon and Betty Chastain, Edward and Elsie Chastain, Troy and Janie Chastain, and Gerald and Janie Chastain.
Services for Tony “Tubby” Chastain will be held Friday, June 9 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Dustin Stancell and Rev. Jason Seritt officiating.
The Chastain family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 8 from 4 until 8 p.m.

Rebecca “Becky” Herrington
Mary Rebecca “Becky” McLeod Herrington, age 73 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Gordon Health and Rehabilitation in Calhoun, following a few years of declining health.
She was born in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone on Sept. 21, 1943, daughter of the late Frank Jefferson McLeod and Alda Lorraine Madden McLeod. Prior to moving to Gordon County, she and her late husband, Harold, lived in Bowling Green, Ky. She spent her young life in the Canal Zone until coming to South Georgia College, Douglas, Georgia, and then attended Grady School of Nursing in Atlanta. She spent most of her life in Marietta, Georgia, before retiring from a long career with Ford Motor Credit Corporation in Atlanta.
Becky was of the Christian faith, and attended Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Calhoun.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Harold Wallace Herrington, and a brother, William Sumner McLeod of Poulan, Georgia.
Surviving are her two brothers, Colonel Frank Jefferson McLeod, Jr., of Smyrna, Georgia, and Keith Madden McLeod and wife Susan of Roebuck, S.C. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Brenda H. Platt of East Point, Georgia; her niece, Kelly Elizabeth McLeod of Moore, S.C.; her nephew, Keith McLeod, Jr., of Fletcher, N.C.; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Becky is also survived by her loving friend and caretaker, Glenda Petty, her dear friends, Robin and Kim Harrison, her many loving caretakers and friends at Gordon Health and Rehabilitation, and all the loving and compassionate members and pastor, Greg Burgner, of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church who loved and served Becky so faithfully.
A Memorial Service for Ms. Becky McLeod Herrington will be Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 2 p.m. from Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, Calhoun, with Robin Harrison and Pastor Greg Burgner officiating.
The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. preceding the Memorial Service.

“Maggie” Floyd, age 78, of the Scottsville Community, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Maggie was born on March 4, 1939 to the late D.B. Duncan and Henrietta Potts Duncan. Also, she was preceded in death by a son, Shane Floyd and four brothers, Wesley S. Duncan, John T. “Jay” Duncan, D.B. Duncan Jr., and Buddy Duncan. She had retired from Galey and Lord Mills of Shannon with 43 years of service and was a member of Unity Baptist Church of Plainville. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and “granny”
Maggie is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Windell Floyd of the Scottsville Community; one daughter, Michele M. Floyd of Great Mills, Md.; three sisters-in-law and caregiver, Debby Parker and her husband, Roy Parker; Delores Hunt and her husband, Clyde Hunt; and Doris Culberson; one brother in law, Spencer Floyd; nieces and nephews; three grandchildren, Jacin Gray and his wife Megan, Amanda Bentil and her husband Kwame, and Megan Gray; three great grandchildren, Savannah Phelps, Elijah Bentil, and Davis Gray.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Shane Parrott officiating. Brent Davis will have charge of music. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery near Plainville.
Pallbearers serving will be Renford Wright, Mark Wright, Jamie Floyd, Clyde Hunt and Roy Parker. They are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. Friday.
The family received friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Steven Russell Yates, age 61 of Calhoun, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in Gordon Hospital.
Steven was born on March 27, 1956 in Fulton County, Ga. to William Russell Yates and the late Margaret Allene Cole Yates. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his step-son, Charles Webster James. He was a member of Davis Chapel Baptist Church of Austell.
Steven is survived by his father, Russell Yates of Calhoun; daughter, Kristen Yates of Calhoun; brother, Robert Yates and his wife Rita of Walker County; sister, Donna Gale Yates of Blue Ridge; granddaughter, Eva Grace Howard of Calhoun; nephew, Russell M. Hucks; and niece, Dixie Venson. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside Services will be conducted on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. in Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens with Reverend Chuck Romain officiating. Pallbearers serving will be Harry Ward, Mark Phillips, Mitchell Landress, Russell Hucks, Leroy Taylor, Todd Greeson, Anthony Bohannon and Darien Hensley.

Ruby Inez Richardson, age 85 of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in Gordon Hospital.
Ruby was born on August 22, 1931 to the late Frank J. Richardson and Mattie Love Richardson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, Tommy, Henry, Winnie Richardson Watkins, Syble Richardson Swafford, Charlie, “Bo” Richardson, James Milton, and Anne Moore. After living in Summerville for 46 years, Ruby returned to Gordon County in 2002.
Ruby was an alumna of Belwood High School, a member of the Gordon County Championship Girls Basketball team of 1948, and was named the Gordon County All-Star player. She was also a long time member of Blackwood Springs Baptist Church.
Ruby is survived by one daughter, Sheila Harkins of Summerville; grandson, Wes Harkins; three sisters, Susie Richardson Gray of Calhoun, Frances Richardson Ball of Calhoun, and Margaret Richardson Cartwright and her husband Bill of Marietta; sister-in-law, Helen Richardson; and brother-in-law, Robert Watkins. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, June 10th at 11 AM from Blackwood Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Walter Hare officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Paul Whitton in charge of graveside rites.
Pallbearers serving will be nephews and great-nephews, Keith Richardson, Jimmy Gray, Jacin Gray, Ron Watkins, Robert Watkins, and Cole Webster. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. J. Alan Webster, Jr., Lynn Richardson, Lawrence Richardson, John Richardson, David and Virginia Patterson, Randy McEntyre, Martha Lance, Bob Lance, Evelyn Stephens, Mary Goss, Barbara Greeson the Blackwood Joy Sunday School Class.
