Pauline Wable Jones passed from this life to her eternal home Jan. 10, 2018.
She was born Feb. 28, 1925 to the late Jacob Samuel Wable and Sarinda May Rhodes Wable. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. David B. Jones; her son, Rev. Dr. Michael Jones; her parents; her siblings, Icie Sample, Bessie Howell, Pearl Martin, Wayne Wable, Ethel Mitchell, Howard Wable, Kenneth Wable, Sr., and her twin Paul Wable.
Pauline was born in Kingwood, W.Va. She moved to the Calhoun area with her siblings in her early teens. She graduated from Sonoraville High School. She worked in Detroit as a welder during World War II.
She married David Jones and they raised their family together in Calhoun and the Marietta area. She retired from the Gordon County Tax Assessor’s Office at the age of 75.
Pauline and David were active members of the Echota Baptist Church and the churches that her husband Rev. David Jones served. Pauline volunteered at Gordon County Hospital as a Pink Lady and remained active in her church and community until she moved near her daughter, Willene in 2014.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Willene (JW) Wallis; son, Bill Jones; daughter-in-law, Melanie Leach Jones; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Kristin) Wallis, Jason (Heather) Wallis, Jodi (Jeff) Adair, Scott Jones, Kevin Jones, Josh (Anna) Jones, Chris (Tiffany) Jones; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild;. sisters-in-law: Norma Wable, Carmen Bridges, Mittie Broyles,; Mary (Bobby) Able and Carolyn Jones. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2:30 p.m. at the Echota Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Davis officiating. The family will be receive friends from 1 - 2:30 p.m. before the service.
Burial will follow at the Gordon Memorial Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Marjorie Mae Derden, 85, of Calhoun, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at Gordon Hospital. She was born in Clearwater, Fla. on Dec. 14, 1932, daughter of the late Stephen and Essie Topkins Lyons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Morris Derden on Jan. 26, 1990; and her daughter, Glenda Derden in 2009.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Derden of Calhoun; and a host of friends.
Graveside funeral services to honor the life of Marjorie Mae Derden were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at the Old Sugar Valley UMC Cemetery.

Janice Irwin Abernathy, 74, of Calhoun, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at her residence following several months of declining health. She was born in Cobb County on July 21, 1943, daughter of the late Clayton and Mildred Dodson Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Irwin; and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Meadows.
She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Marion “Earl” Abernathy; her sons, Greg Abernathy and Brian Abernathy; her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Bruce Stocks, all of Calhoun; her sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Meadows of Marietta, and Nancy and Albin Carter of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Brittany Bunch and her husband T.J., Brie Welch and her husband Curt, Brody Stocks and his wife Carrie, Rhett Abernathy, River Abernathy, and Raghn Abernathy; and great-grandchildren, Bowen and Baylor Bunch, and Colt Welch. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Services to honor the life of Janice Irwin Abernathy were held Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.

Mr. Buford Thomas Christian, age 70, of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Simpson Christian; mother, Eula Mae Bowden; father Herman Terhume; sister, Priscilla Bonds; brother, Mickey Harris and aunt, Georgia Armstrong.
He is survived by his daughters, Tamara Christian, Patricia Christian, and Alexis Weems; sisters, Marsha Mitchell and Linda Watts; brothers, James Bowden, Campanella (Phyllis) Christian; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Harris, Mary Ruth (Pete) Garrigan, and Brenda Harris; brother-in-law, Matthew Simpson; special friend, Wanda Cooper; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Brenda Gail Black, 58, of Calhoun, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at Redmond Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health. She was born in Gordon County on Oct. 19, 1959, daughter of the late Louis Jack and Pauline Long Leatherwood.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Kimberly Black; her daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Jimmy McRee, and Eileen Black and Bubba West, all of Calhoun; and her grandchildren, Justen Black, Ethan McRee, and Gwyndolyn Black.
Services to honor the life of Brenda Gail Black were held Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Honoring her wishes, her body will be cremated following the service.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the service hour of 7 p.m.

Mrs. Glenda Sue (Harkins) Davis, age 60, of Resaca, passed away at her home surrounded by her family Friday, Jan. 5, 2018..
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Davis; parents, Howard and Ola Harkins; brothers and sister in law, Milburn and Myrtle Bryan, Wendell Harkins, and Gary Harkins.
Survivors include her children and spouses: Sandy and Doug Ralston, Joe and Tabitha (Tabbie) Davis all of Resaca; grandchildren, Jazmine and Gabrielle Ralston; brothers and sisters in law, Dub and Pearl Harkins of Chatsworth, Ed and Donna Harkins of Resaca, and Hazel Harkins of Chatsworth.
Celebration of Glenda’s life was held Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Tabernacle of Praise, Hwy 225, Calhoun, with Rev. Roy Smith and Rev. Andrew Bowen officiating. She was laid to rest next to her husband Jackson at the Haven of Rest Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the Tabernacle of Praise on Monday, from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. Special Thanks to the Harbin Dialysis Center in Calhoun.

Carolyn Mims Clark Herndon, age 80, of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at her residence.
Mims was born on Dec. 13, 1937 in Gordon County to the late Rev. M.L. Clark and Cleo Inez Morris Clark. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Bruce Herndon; brother, William M. “Bill” Clark; and sister, Mildred Blackwell. She was a lifetime resident of Gordon County, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where her father was a former pastor. Mims served as Worthy Matrion for the Order of the Eastern Star of Fairmount; secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Calhoun Chapter VFW; and Volunteer with the local Battered Women’s Shelter were she was named Volunteer of the Year.
Mims is survived by her husband, Robert Herndon of Calhoun; daughter, Robin Dalton and her husband B.W. of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Newton officiating. Brenda Fox had charge of music. Interment followed in Fain Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving were Michael Martin, Mike Satterfield, Benny Morrow, Jeff Morrow, Darrell Grizzle, and Dewayne Grizzle.
The family received friends on Wednesday an hour prior to the funeral at Thomas Funeral Home.
