Tracey Whaley

Tracey McGinnis Whaley, 42, of Adairsville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born in Calhoun on Nov. 24, 1974. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sherry Harrell, and grandfather, Troy McGinnis, of Calhoun.

She is survived by her parents, David and Donna McGinnis of Adairsville; husband of 17 years, Alan Whaley; son, Alex Whaley of Calhoun; sisters and brothers-in-law, Angie (Josh) Glosson of Calhoun, Kim (Philip) Harp of Adairsville, and Jessica (Josh) Witting of Bethlehem; brothers, Heath Bearden of Aragon and Justin (Alexandria) Harris of Ray City; grandmother, Shirley McDougle of Adairsville; aunts and uncles, Sharon (Wayne) Parker, Cynthia (Greg) McGuire, Gary (Cindy) McGinnis and Marie (Michael) Hurst. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Special thanks to Rita Cook with ResCare for many years of friendship and care. Thank you to the wonderful staff Heyman Hospice. Over the last 15 years of declining health we were blessed with many people who cared for Tracey whom the family would like to thank.

Services to honor the life of Tracey McGinnis Whaley were held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment followed in Gordon Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers serving included Kevin Parker, Jason McGuire, William Bryant, Alan Young, Jeremy Bryant and Charlie McGinnis.

The family received friends on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m.

Joan Dodd

Mrs. Joan Dodd, age 75, of Calhoun, passed away early Sunday morning, April 9, 2017 at her home, following several years of declining health. She was born in Gordon County on April 2, 1942, daughter of Evelyn Greeson Stephens, and the late Max Forster Pass. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Lamar Stephens; and a brother-in-law, Robert Craig.

Joan was a homemaker, and prior to her illness, was an active member of South Calhoun Baptist Church for many years.

She leaves behind her husband, Bobby J. Dodd; her mother, Evelyn Stephens of Calhoun; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Billy Johnson of Fairmount, Ann and Gerald Mashburn, Vivian and Randy Reddick, and Patsy Craig, all of Calhoun; nieces and nephews, David and Judy Craig of Calhoun, Carla and Brian Blackstock of Calhoun, Amy and Delbert Chambers of Calhoun, Julie and Bart Hurley of Fairmount, and Brent and Alice Mashburn of Calhoun; and her Godson, Donnie Nesbitt and his wife Tracie of Calhoun. A host of friends and other relatives also survive.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Joan Dodd were held Tuesday, April 11 at 3 p.m. from South Calhoun Baptist Church, with Rev. Gary Bowman, Rev. Clifford Free, and Rev. Gregg Free officiating. Music was arranged by Brian Padgett. Interment followed in Fain Cemetery. Deacons of South Calhoun Baptist Church served as pallbearers.

The family received friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Monday, April 10 at 5 p.m.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Heyman Hospice, and Janet Fife, for their care giving during Joan’s illness.

Dale Dempsey

Kenneth Dale Dempsey, age 85, of Calhoun, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at his residence.

Dale was born on Jan. 30, 1932, in Gordon County to the late Alton and Bessie Goode Dempsey. He was employed by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, retiring after 46 years. He also served in the Headquarter Company, First Battalion, 108th Armor, Georgia Army National Guard and was a member of American Legion Post #47 and Calhoun Elks Lodge B.P.O.E #1883.

Dale is survived by his wife of 61 years, Katherine Haley Dempsey of Calhoun; son, Ken Dempsey and his wife Jean of Mobile, Alabama; a daughter, Kathy Blackwell and her husband Bruce of Tunnel Hill; five grandsons, Peter Dempsey and his wife Lauren, Conner Dempsey and his wife Tara of Mobile, Alabama, Philip Dempsey of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Matthew Blackwell and his wife Keri and Thomas Blackwell of Tunnel Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Noah and Amelia Dempsey and McCoy Blackwell. Also surviving are sisters, Barbara Densmore of Canton and Joan Roebuck and her husband Doug of Calhoun.

Funeral Services were conducted on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. John Barber officiating. The grandsons and Terry Mills will serve as pallbearers.

The family received friends on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home from 2 until 6 p.m.

Beda Ryan

Beda Lynn Ryan, age 56, of Calhoun passed away at her residence surrounded by her family, following a long illness of many years.

Beda was born on Jan. 4, 1961 to the late Winfred Fowler and Beda Elizabeth Smith. Beda was a long time resident of Gordon County where she was employed by Hardees for over 35 years. She was currently attending Calhoun First United Methodist. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, Jim Fowler.

Beda is survived by three daughters, Beda Josephine Ryan, Jerri Lynn Ryan and Jessica Mary Ryan; three sisters, Donna Evans, Betty Jo Charvat and Gail Mae Ellenburg; three grandchildren, Connor James Whittier, Beda Grace Lynn Tores and Anna Faith Scott; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Muse officiating. Burial will follow at Chandler Cemetery.
