Mr. Jerry Morris Brown, 75 a well known resident of Calhoun, died early on Tuesday May 16th from complications of heart disease.
Mr. Brown was born in Gordon County, GA on August 19, 1941, son of the late Oliver “Buster” Brown and Della Hudggins Brown. He was a lifelong resident of Gordon County and during his working career he started out at Trend Mills in Shannon and later worked for Quality Finishers for more than thirty years and he also owned and operated B&E Used Cars and North 41 Flea Market and retired from Brian’s Auto Sales. He attended Resaca School and was an avid fan of Stock Car Racing and loved telling stories and making people laugh.
Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Brown will be conducted Friday, May 19th at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Pasley, Rev. Rickey Silvers and Rev. Randy Gulledge officiating. Honorary pallbearers serving will include, Shawn, Victor and Timmy Chastain, Brian Young, Sam Ball and Jackie Massingill. It was Jerry’s request to be cremated following the funeral service.
Survivors include his wife, Retha Ruthell Garlin Brown to whom he was married for 55 years, one son, Dusty Brown and his wife Kim of Calhoun and one daughter, Tina Ball and her husband Sam of Calhoun and one sister, Sherry Chastain of Calhoun. Grandchildren; Amy Kyle, Jenna Aliberti, Tara degenhardt, Payton Brown and Morgan Brown. Great grandchildren, Madolyn Slattery and Michaela Aliberti along with his two furry friends, Cricket and Sophia.
The Brown family received friends Thursday May 18th between the hours of 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Barbara Sue Holbert, age 76, of Calhoun, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Rome.
Sue was born on January 13, 1941 to the late Buford Holbert and Pearl Keener Holbert. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Holbert and his wife Joyce; and sister, Agnes Cornwell and her husband Charles. Sue was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and had taught school in Gordon County and surrounding counties in her lifetime. She received her degree from Berry College and Masters from Georgia Southern.
Sue is survived by a special friend, Pearley Chastain; two brothers, Cicero Holbert and his wife Carolyn of Calhoun, and Tom Holbert of Kingsport; Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were conducted on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Wesley Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with the Reverend David Nix in charge of graveside services.Pallbearers serving will be nephews, Wade Holbert, Rusty Holbert, Gilbert Holbert, Kevin Cornwell, Chad Cornwell, Todd Holbert, Hunter Holbert and Drew Holbert.

Allen Wilson, 50, a lifetime resident of the Sonoraville Community, died at his home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 following a sudden heart attack. Allen was born in Rome on May 21, 1966.
Allen is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Taylor and Jamie Martin; his mother, Juanita Wilson; his grandchildren, Damon and Josie Dru Martin; his loving companion, Keisha Chastain; his father, Herbert Allen Wilson; his brother, Harley Wilson; his aunts and uncles, Michael and Shirley Johnson, and Margaret and Wayne Bohannon; his cousins, including Brent Jones, Julie Dickey, Tennille Brown, and Liza Allen; his devoted friends, Diane and Randy Reed; other relatives and many friends.
Allen was preceded in death by his best friend, Denise Wilson; his grandparents, Leon and Louise Johnson, and Guy and Mildred Wilson. He was lovingly known to his grandchildren and friends as “Alpo.”
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow the visitation on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow the service at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. Michael Johnson, Robert Paris, and Brent Jones will speak at the service. Pallbearers are Robert Paris, Jamie Martin, Pooh Quinn, Wayne Bohannon, Michael Johnson, and Randy Reed.
