Mr. Eddie “Big E” Griffin, age 65, of Fairmount, departed this life Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Redmond Regional Hospital in Rome.
Eddie was born Dec. 25, 1951 in Fairmount, a son of the late Alton and Ruth Brannon Griffin. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Griffin Stanfield Ponder and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Billy Joe and Mary Hopper.
Eddie was a 1970 graduate of Fairmount High School. He was an antique car buff, Harley Davidson rider, loved drag racing, the outdoors and loved to camp. He was a simple man and a good person.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Susan Griffin, who would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on July 14, 2017; daughter, Holly Griffin of Fairmount; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Johnnie Griffin of Pace, Fla.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joanna and Steve Brannon of Fairmount; special friends, Marie and Richie Green of Rocky Face; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Eddie “Big E” Griffin were held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Ponders Fairmount Chapel with Minister Michael Yancey officiating. He was laid to rest at the Hopper Cemetery in Ranger with Richie Green, Blake Brannon, Jim Moore, Robert Taylor, Gary “Tinker” Moore and Mylon Holbert serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were “The Creek Crowd,” “The Motorcycle Family” and Stanly Boyd.
The family received friends at Ponders Fairmount Chapel, 2566 Hwy. 411, Fairmount, GA, from 2 until 9 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday until the service hour.

Louise Mitchell, 86, of Calhoun, died at Gordon Healthcare on Thursday, June 8, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Louise was born in Bartow County on Oct. 21, 1930, daughter of the late Thomas Watson and Millie Mae Stover Mullis. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Mitchell in 2005; her brother, Edward Mullis; and her sister, Geraldine Owen.
Louise was a homemaker. She loved gardening, the mountains and watching the birds and squirrels. She cherished her neighbors, and was a wonderful and caring mother, a faithful and loving wife, and a caregiver to many. She was an active member of Belmont Baptist Church until her health began to decline. While at Belmont, she will be fondly remembered for working with the children, teaching Mission Friends, and children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Louise is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene “Gene” and Geraldine “Sissy” Mitchell, and Bill and Rosemary Mitchell, all of Calhoun; her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandi Richardson Dutton and Mitch Dutton of Calhoun, Joy and Jule Medders of Resaca, and Lynn and Daryl Bryan of Peachtree Corners; her grandchildren, Kim (Jeff) West, Stacy (Rob) Mikesell, Robby (Jill) Richardson, Mitch Richardson, Cheyenne (Priscilla) Medders, Carson (Megan) Medders, Will (Katie) Medders, Savannah Bryan, Dallas Bryan, Kayla Mitchell, Jenna (Doug) Esget, Cameron Bryant, Cody Holm, Britany Pierce, and the late Joshalynn Degolier (Joseph); her great-grandchildren, Skyler, Emily, Allison, Noah, Brooke, Max, Rex, Chet, Cora, Matthew, Samson, Scarlett, Amber Rose, Aydan, Axel, and Dale; her brother and sister-in-law, Delmar and Ethel Mullis; her treasured son-in-law, Robert Richardson; her brother-in-law, Bill Owen; many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special fur baby, Petey.
Services to honor the life of Mrs. Louise Mitchell were held Sunday, June 11 at 4 p.m. from Belmont Baptist Church, with Pastor Stephen Williams and Dr. John Allen officiating. Jim Sellers had charge of the music. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment followed in Chandler Cemetery.

Sarvia Williams, age 77 of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 in Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Sarvia was born on July 9, 1939 in Chipas, Mexico to the late Salvador Martinez and Manuela Reyes Martinez. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Emeal Williams. Sarvia was a member of the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Sarvia is survived by her son, Alvin Williams of Calhoun; daughter, Marilyn Williams of Calhoun; two brothers, Victor Phillip Williams, and Richard Marden; and seven grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, June 18 at 11 a.m. from the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Elisa Chavez, age 56 of Calhoun, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017 in Pruitt Health – Shepherd Hills of LaFayette.
Elisa was born on Oct. 25, 1960 in Jaliso, Mexico to the late Juan Jose Chavez and Maria Almacan Chavez.
Elisa is survived by her husband, Miguel Ortiz; four sons, Juan Lopez, Miguel Angel Ortiz, Roberto Lopez and Mario Lopez; daughter, Maricruz Ortiz; brother, Refugio Almazan; sister, Diduvina Chavez; and sixteen grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, June 16 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Erick Ralec officiating.

Ruby Inez Richardson, age 85, of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in Gordon Hospital.
Ruby was born on Aug. 22, 1931 to the late Frank J. Richardson and Mattie Love Richardson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, William Thomas (Tommy), Henry Duke, Charlie, John Frank (Bo), and James Milton Richardson; sisters, Winnie Richardson Watkins, Syble Richardson Swafford, and Anne Moore.
Ruby was an alumna of Belwood High School, a member of the Gordon County Championship Girls Basketball team of 1948, and was named the Gordon County All-Star player of the year.
After living in Summerville, Georgia for 46 years, Ruby returned to Gordon County in 2002. She was a long time member of Blackwood Springs Baptist Church.
Ruby is survived by one daughter, Sheila Harkins of Summerville; grandson, Wes Harkins; sisters, Susie Richardson Gray of Calhoun, Frances Richardson Ball of Calhoun, and Margaret Richardson Cartwright and her husband Bill of Marietta; sister-in-law, Helen Richardson; and brother-in-law, Robert Watkins. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were conducted on Saturday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at Blackwood Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Walter Hare officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwood cemetery with Reverend Paul Whitton officiating.
Pallbearers serving were nephews and great-nephews, Keith Richardson, Jimmy Gray, Jacin Gray, Ron Watkins, Robert Watkins Jr,, and Cole Webster. Honorary Pallbearers were Dr. J. Alan Webster, Jr., Lynn Richardson, Lawrence Richardson, John Richardson, David and Virginia Patterson, Randy McEntyre, Martha Lance, and the Joy Sunday School Class (Bob Lance, Evelyn Stephens, Mary Goss, Barbara Greeson).
The family received friends on Friday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.
