Samuel Moore

Samuel “Sammy” Moore, age 75 of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at his residence.

Samuel was born on Aug. 5, 1941 in Copperhill, Tenn. to the late Rex Moore and Georgia Troceio. He was retired from Quality Finishers as a boiler operator. Sammy served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. Org and Nancy Forster; grandson, John Harp; nephew, Anthony Moore; and brother, Bobby Moore. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Joan Moore; three daughters, Patti Gail Allmond and her husband Tim of Metter, Billie Louise Reisner and her husband Terry of Calhoun, Jeana Renee Holman and her husband Richard of Calhoun; two brothers, Archie Moore of Nevada, and Joe and Gail Moore of Cornelia; grandchildren, Travis and Ashley Wells of Statesboro, Zac and Amanda Moore of Santa Claus, Kaleb and Bridgett Harp of Cartersville, Cayman Moore of Calhoun, Kenidy Holman of Calhoun; great-grandchildren, Hunter Wells, Harper Moore, Emi Wells, River Moore and Lorelei Harp. Sammy is also survived by his best friend, Harold Bryan of Kansas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 28, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Kaleb Harp and Zac Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving are Travis Wells, Zac Moore, Kaleb Harp, Cayman Moore, Timothy Allmond, Richard Holman, Terry Reisner, and Michael Chastain. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Moore and Danny Kilgore.

Jean Barton

Jean Barton, age 86 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at her residence.

Jean was born on Dec. 1, 1930 in Calhoun to the late James Washington Barton and Sudie Keys. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband John Troy “Corky” Barton and a brother, Talmadge Barton. Jean was a member of the Calhoun First Methodist Church, Gordon County historical society, past-president of the Gordon hospital volunteers, member of Sequoyah Garden Club, and the Gordon County beautification committee, she was also an avid bridge player, book reader and gardener.

She is survived by two sons, John T. Barton, Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Libertyville, Ill. and Jim Barton of Maple Park, Ill.; two daughters, Debbie Barton of Tampa, Fla. and Melinda Barton of Dalton; two grandchildren; Jeff and Troy Barton.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Reverend Ed Archer officiating guest speakers include Jim Lay and John Barton. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Steve Barton, John Troy Barton, Jr., Jeff Barton, Troy Barton and Neal Barton serving as pallbearers.

Carolyn Rogers

Mrs. Carolyn Sue Rogers, age 70, of Mays Street, Adairsville, passed away Thursday morning June 22, 2017 at her residence.

She was born in Gordon County, Feb. 26, 1947, daughter of the late Earl J. and Dorothy Allen Ray. Mrs. Rogers was a member of New Life Ministries and was a retired school bus driver for the Bartow County School Systems. She loved being with her family, attending her grandchildren’s school events, vacations in the Smokies, and cooking for her family. Mrs. Rogers is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Ray; grandson, LCpl Seth Sharp.

Survivors include her loving husband, A.L. Rogers of Adairsville; children, Sabrina Rogers Horner of Adairsville, Shane and Donna Rogers of Adairsville, and Tiffany and Ric Sharp of Adairsville; grandchildren, Kenly and Brittany Rogers, Dylan Rogers, Bre Horner, Brooke Horner, Kaitlyn Greene, Taylor Greene; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Kellan Rogers; brothers, Farril and Christine Ray and Wayne and Diane Ray, both of Adairsville; sister, Ann and Tim Miller of Armuchee; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 2 p.m. from New Life Ministries, Adairsville, with Rev. Steve Morrow, Rev. Randy Gulledge, and Rev. Audrey Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers were John Miller, Jason Miller, Kenly Rogers, Dylan Rogers, Tony Ray, and Wes Pace.

Ruth King

Mrs. A. Ruth King, age 95, of Calhoun, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Gordon Health Care. She was the widow of the late Mr. Grady King. She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Gene King, and daughter, Shirley Jean Harrison.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Hogan of Calhoun; son-in-law, Elder Joseph Harrison of Dalton; daughter-in-law, Florene King of Calhoun; nine grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 1 p.m. at The New Harvest Church Ministries, Inc., 400 North Fredrick Street, Dalton, with Bishop Claud Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Her remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Tuesday after 12:00 noon. George Owens

George Evan Owens, age 95, of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in Gordon Hospital following a brief illness.

George was born on March 16, 1922 in Gordon County to the late Sam Owens and Mae Montgomery Owens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Chitwood Owens; daughter, Sandra Owens Bearden; son, Keith Owens; granddaughter, Natalie Bearden; and two brothers, Don R. Owens, and James S. Owens.

George was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving as a pilot and dentist, and was honorably discharged after having contracted rheumatic fever. He was a member of Pine Chapel United Methodist Church.

George is survived by three nieces, Debra C. Owens of Calhoun, Kim Owens Tilman of Marathon, Fla., and Diana Owens Layson of Calhoun; nephew, David M. Owens of Calhoun; step-grandson, Mark S. Bearden of Calhoun. Several cousins, special caregivers, friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 28 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Wesley Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving are Chris Taylor, L.P. Owens, Lamar Owens, Hubert Long, Marvin Roberts and Jim Phillips.

The family received friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.
