Virginia Adcock

Mrs. Virginia Mae Rogers Adcock, 88, of Calhoun, died Monday, March 13, 2017 at Calhoun Health Care. She was born in Bartow County on Nov. 20, 1928, daughter of the late Ervin and Myrtle Chapman Rogers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Adcock in 1983; her son, Jackie Adcock; a step-son, W.A. Adcock; and siblings, Ethel Rogers, J.D. Rogers, Rass Rogers, and Alvin Rogers.

Mrs. Adcock was a member of Eastgate Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Judy Adcock of Fairmount; granddaughters, Carrie Adcock and Jaclyn Adcock; step-grandchildren, Laura and Leslie Adcock, Chasity Parker Redding, and Jonathon Parker; and great-great grandchildren, Alex Parker, Brodi Adcock, Kaiden Stanley, Fallon Cameron, and Jace Adcock.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Virginia Mae Rogers Adcock were held Thursday, March 16 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenny Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Jonathon Parker, Leslie Adcock, Harvey Petty, Chris Bonds, Zac Sims, Jackie Gravley, and J.D. “Rooster” Rogers, Jr.

The Adcock family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 15 from 5 until 9 p.m.

Howard Gravitt

Johnny Howard Gravitt, age 66, of Plainville, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Howard was born on March 4, 1951 in Gordon County to the late John “Ted” Gravitt and Mary Jones Gravitt.

Howard is survived by his son, Michael Gravitt and his wife Melanie of Calhoun; brother, Tommy Gravitt and his wife Hilda; three sisters, Janice Cantrell and her husband Larry, Betty Mae Smith and Diane Randolph and her husband Bill all of Plainville; one grandson, Koty Gravitt of Carrollton, GA; special friends, Peggy Bradley, Leroy Hazelwood and Lee Burk. A host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Graveside Services will be conducted on Sunday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. in Scott Cemetery with Rev. Ken Coomer officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at 3 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.

Grace Adcock

Mrs. Grace Cowart Adcock, 96, of the Folsom Community, passed away peacefully at home Monday, March 13, 2017.

She was born in Adairsville on April 24, 1920, daughter of the late John B. “Jack” Cowart and Mary L. Stephens Cowart. Mrs. Adcock was a devout Christian and member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. She cherished her church and her neighbors. She loved her family, especially cooking for them. She is preceded in death by her husband, Luther A. Adcock on Jan. 15, 2003; sisters, Alma Richardson and Lillie Pratt; brothers, A.B. Cowart and Douglas Cowart; and son-in-law, Henry Boswell.

Survivors include her children, Johnnie Sue Boswell, Doyle and Mary Adcock, and Dearl and Lydia Adcock all of Adairsville; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and eight great great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Jackie Cowart, Martha Ann Sewell, Marian Shook, Bobbie Wyatt, Patsy Vines, Sarah Shuler, and Carolyn Cowart; brother, Hughlon Cowart and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 2 p.m. from Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Adairsville with Rev. Barry Adcock and Rev. Gregg Free officiating. Interment followed in Hayes Cemetery. Pallbearers included her grandsons, Brian Adcock, Danny Higgins, Ashley Black, Gus Adcock, Jacob Garrett, and Nathan Adcock.

The family received friends Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.

Bernice Lyle

Bernice H. Lyle, age 70, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017. She was born in Tallapoosa, Ga. on May 1, 1946, daughter of the late Bill and Laura Ola Palmer Haney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Haney.

Bernice moved to Calhoun five years ago, from Tallapoosa. She attended New Life Ministries in Adairsville.

She leaves behind her sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Becky Temple, and Creg and Kelly Lyle, all of Calhoun; her grandchildren, Chad (Jessica) Temple, Jennifer (Cully) Gilfoil, Daniel Lyle, Audrey Lyle, Cheyenne Temple, Anthony Temple, and Elijah Temple; and her great-grandchildren, Maci Gilfoil, Miley Gilfoil, Tyson Temple, Jared Temple, and Addy.

Services to honor the life of Bernice H. Lyle were held Thursday, March 16 at 3 p.m. from New Life Ministries, 311 N. Main Street, Adairsville, GA 30103, with Pastor Steve Morrow officiating. Interment followed in Gordon Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers serving included Daniel Lyle, Chad Temple, Anthony Temple, Tyson Temple, Cully Gilfoil, and Eddie Free.

The family received friends at New Life Ministries on Wednesday, March 15 from 5 until 8 p.m., and again on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.

Betty Mauldin

Betty Carla Mauldin, age 61, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Gordon Hospital. She was born in Fort Payne, Ala. on May 23, 1955, daughter of the late David and Lillie Dennis Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Don Mauldin.

Betty attended Boone Ford Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Angie Mauldin of Calhoun; her daughter and son-in-law, Tabitha and Dewayne Payne of Calhoun; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Phyllis Moore of Fort Payne, Ala.; her sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Wayne Fowler of LaFayette, Ga.; and her grandchildren, Gavin, Gwyneth, and Gibsyn Payne.

Services to honor the life of Betty Carla Mauldin were held Thursday, March 16 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Quarles officiating. Interment followed in Gordon Memorial Gardens.
