Betty Burchett

Betty Burchett, age 80 of Calhoun, passed peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2017 in Gordon Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on April 30, 1937 in Gordon County to the late Edwin Sullivan and Beatrice Evans Sullivan. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. Betty was a well-known Beautician for more than 40 years, and loved creating beauty. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Betty is survived by her husband, Howard “JR” Burchett; three sons, Paul Shirley and his wife, Wanda, Barry Shirley and his wife Wanda, and Randy Burchett; four daughters, Janie Osborn and her husband Clay, April Shirley, Kathy Heckman, and Julie Russell; sister, Carol Adams; nineteen grandchildren; and thirty-five great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services were conducted on Thursday, July 20 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. John Allen officiating. Burial followed in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving were Barry Shirley, Paul Shirley, Greg Meadows, Larry Black, Lamar Dean, Howard Brock, and Benny Wood.

The family received friends on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.

Virginia Hunt

Mrs. Virginia Ann Hunt, 64, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at her home. She was born in Fulton County on Aug. 6, 1952, daughter of the late Henry Dave and Iris Donavon Youngblood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Youngblood; sisters, Rachel Harris and Vera Youngblood; a grandson, Nathan Trevor Floyd Hunt; and several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include her husband, Lee Hunt; her sons, Floyd Hunt and Michelle Hunt, Lee Hunt III and Maria Payne; and David Hunt, all of Calhoun; her daughter, Terry Hunt of Calhoun; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Patricia Youngblood of Warner Robins; sisters, Mary Jo Youngblood of Florida, and Deloris Wainwright of Warner Robins; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, Lynn Spires Luyo, Debbie Spires, and Carmen Hunt; nephews, Bubba Hunt and Jimmy Harrison; brothers-in-law, Jessie Spires, Herman Hunt, and Bobby Hunt; and many other relatives and friends.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Virginia Ann Hunt were held Thursday, July 20 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with family members officiating. Interment followed in Haven of Rest Memorial Park, with Rev. Jamey Hunt officiating. Pallbearers serving included Lee Hunt III, Floyd Hunt, Donald Montgomery, Edward Youngblood, Maria Payne and Julie Carlson.

The Hunt family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 19 from 5 until 9 p.m.

Anna Davis

Mrs. Anna Faye McClellan Davis, 92 of Calhoun, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017. She was born in Trion, GA on April 29, 1925, daughter of the late Marvin McClellan Sr. and Annie Lee Brimer McClellan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years in 1993, William Earl Davis; and her brothers, Marvin McClellan Jr. and James (Jim) McClellan.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Moss Memorial Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Sue Davis of Calhoun; daughters and sons-in-law, Gena and Gene Dishroon of Calhoun, Tammy and Lamar Tinch of Calhoun, and Earlene and Travis Motes of Winston, GA; grandchildren, Jason and Crissy Davis of Calhoun, Paul and Katie Dishroon of Calhoun, Kelly and Tyler Ferguson of Calhoun, Jamie Davis of Calhoun, and April Howard of Winston, GA; and great-grandchildren, Owen Ferguson, Reese and Raye Davis, Addison and Anna Dishroon, and Jackson Howard.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 22 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. J. Clinton Green and Rev. Steven Cochran officiating. Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers serving are Jason Davis, Paul Dishroon, Jamie Davis, Gene Dishroon, Lamar Tinch, and Larry Chitwood.

The Davis family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 22 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Allen Casey, Jr.

Allen John Casey, Jr., age 47, of Plainville, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at his residence.

Allen was born on July 1, 1970 in Gordon County to Allen John Casey, Sr. and Roxie Goble Leffew. He was a graduate of Gordon Central High School, Class of 1988, and formerly attended Barrett Road Church of God. Allen served in the United States Navy during the Desert Storm era. He worked as an industrial electrician for Sonoco of Kentucky.

He is survived by his parents, Allen John Casey, Sr., and Roxie and Freddie Leffew; two daughters, Miranda Casey of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Alexandrea Casey of Tucson, Ariz. step-children, Chelsea, Cody and Cassie; his fiancé, Anita York and her children, Demetri and Alaska; sisters, René Bell, Rachel Payne, Angie Hatcher and her husband Donald of Gaylesville, AL, DeAnna Bunch and her husband Kevin of Cartersville, Trisha Prioreschi of Calhoun; and special aunts, Winnie Hobgood and Nancy Adcock. Several beloved nieces, nephews, and many special friends in Henderson, KY also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, July 22 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Norris Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving will be Brett Parker, Bruce Parker, Josh Roberson, Elijah Roberson, Shane Hatcher, Jared Cornwell and Demetri York.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.

James Choran

James Choran, age 67, of Adairsville, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Compasus Hospice Suites in Birmingham, Ala.

James was born on Nov. 24, 1949 in Cobb County to the late James L. Choran and Christine Isabelle Rogers. He was employed by Lockheed-Martin Aircraft for several years. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by Danny Choran.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Murphy Choran; two sons, James Joseph Choran of Adairsville, Joshua Lee Choran of Birmingham; two daughters, Amy Dawn Choran of Hoover, Ala. and Gwendolen Diane Choran Stewart of Plainville; two brothers, Jimmy Choran of Cobb County and John Choran of Cobb County; two grandchildren, Tarah Marie Stewart and William Brady Stewart.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, July 21, 2017 from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Roger Peace Jr. officiating.

Jay Roberts

Mr. J.W. “Jay” Roberts, age 77, of Dalton GA, departed this life Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the local hospital. Jay was born March 9, 1940 in Langdale, Ala., son of the late James Watson Roberts and Vermell Carmack Roberts. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Myra Darlene Green, grandson, Steven Kyle Roberts. He retired from Shaw Industries after 32 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Maxine Patterson Roberts of the residence; son, Lamar Roberts; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylvia and David Johnson, Trisha and Herman Hackney; brothers and sister-in-law, Denny and Lisa Roberts, Melvin Roberts; grandchildren, Tiffani Roberts, Cody Robert all of Dalton, GA; aunt, Eunice Carmack of Marietta, GA; brother-in-law, Larry Greene of Dalton, GA; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. J. W. “Jay” Roberts will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 3 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Jim Brinkley, Reverend Tommy Deal and Reverend Billy Willis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday.
