Roxie Holcomb

Roxie Stone Holcomb, age 98, of Calhoun, died Jan. 3, 2017 in the Manor House of Rome.

Roxie was born in Gordon County on Nov. 10, 1918, a daughter of the late J.E. (Edd) Stone and Mamie Garrett Holcomb. She was also preceded in death by her husband, A. Marlin Holcomb.

Roxie had lived most of her life in Gordon County and was a member of the Sonoraville Baptist Church. Formerly, she was an active member of the Liberty Homemaker’s Club and loved flower gardening, arts and crafts. She and her husband, Marlin, were owner-operators of Marlin and Roxie’s House of Beauty for more than 40 years.

She is survived by four sons and their wives, Gary and Michelle Holcomb, Arillus and Cindy Holcomb, Noel and Terri Holcomb, Edwill and Sherry Holcomb; and four grandchildren, Alan Holcomb, Brandon Holcomb, Kathleen Holcomb and Zane Holcomb.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Sonoraville Baptist Church with Dr. John Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Chandler Cemetery with Reverend Steve Skates in charge of graveside rites. Pallbearers serving will be sons and grandsons.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 6 from 12 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2 p.m. at Sonoraville Baptist Church.

Raybun Towers

Mr. Raybun F. Towers, age 78, of Calhoun, died Monday, Jan. 2 in Hamilton Medical Center after several weeks of illness.

Raybun was born Jan. 29, 1938 in Gordon County, a son of the late Arch Towers and Willie Lee Colston Towers. He also was preceded in death by his wife, the former Miss Jan Moore, two brothers, Michael Towers and Larry Towers.

Raybun retired from the Atlanta Gas Light Co. after 37 ½ years of service. He had served as local manager of the Chatsworth and Calhoun offices. He was active in the local Chamber of Commerce, the local Development Authority, and the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Raybun (Chip) Towers, Jr., of Bogart and Chris Bush of Flowery Branch; a daughter, Toni Towers Keeling of Statam, Ga.; grandchildren, Ronnie Weeks, Michael Simonton, Danielle Towers, Bryson Towers, Jordan Bush, Brooke Wall, Bear Keeling, and Josh Keeling; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Eddie Herring officiating. David Smith will have charge of music. The Towers family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6 at the funeral home. The covenant Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Eddie Jo Pullum

Mrs. Eddie Jo Dixon Pullum, age 84, of Calhoun, passed Monday, Jan. 2, 2016 at Gordon Health Care. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, retired from Fafnir/Torrington, and was preceded in death by her father, Grady Dixon; mother and stepfather, Pauline and James Montgomery; brothers Jack Hogan, Bill Dixon, James Dixon, Samuel Dixon and Ralph Dixon.

She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Richard Pullum; daughter, Tammie Simpson; son, Rickey (Kathy) Simpson, Sr.; grandchildren, Francesca (Billy) Morrow, Joseph (Zulema) Simpson, Rickey (Valerie) Simpson, Jr., Taylor Simpson, Anikia Simpson, Kendall Simpson, Kashae Simpson, Railyn Simpson, and Kendric Simpson, all of Calhoun; step grandchildren, Greg (Melody) Matthews, Meagan (Tim) Quarles, and Summer Matthews; great grandchildren, Jayden Valdez, Mia Simpson, Sophia Simpson, and Riley Morrow; stepson, Mitchell (Tiera) Winters; two sisters, Shirley Ramsey and Wynell Kennedy; brother, Mack Montgomery, all of Calhoun, Georgia; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Boone Ford Baptist Church, 1350 Boone Ford Road, S.E., Calhoun, with Dr. Scott McClure and other ministers officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday evening from 7 until 8 p.m. Interment, Haven Of Rest Cemetery. Martis Kelley

Mrs. Martis “Marti” Janell Kelley, age 75, of Calhoun, entered the gates of Heaven and was welcomed by her Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at the local hospital, with her loving family at her bedside. Marti was born Dec. 12, 1941 in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Milton Priest and Mellene Anderson Priest. Marti worked many years in the nursing field, working 26 years at Gordon County Hospital, Morning Point Assisted Living and started her career at Watkins Memorial Hospital in Ellijay. Marti loved to read, cook, sew and most of all loved to take care of others.

Mrs. Martis “Marti” Janell Kelley is survived by her husband, Joseph “Pete” Kelley; sons, Reed (Rosa ) Williams of Ramhurst, Ga., Tommy (Sabrina) Golden of Calhoun; daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Kinsey of Plainville, Cara (Joel) Wright of Calhoun; brother, James ( Diane) Priest of Talking Rock; grandchildren, Christopher Cline, Casey Abernathy, Joseph Cline, Brandon Cline, Candice Cline, Alan Williams, Natasha Kinsey, Matthew Williams, Hunter Hamilton, Benjamin Golden and Jordan Golden and twenty-two great grandchildren; niece, Lori Moles (Jason) of Talking Rock.

The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Martis “Marti” Janell Kelley will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. from Ponders Calhoun Chapel with Rev. Fred McCoy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Pickens County, with Chris Cline, Joseph Cline, Tyler Cochran, Kovan Serritt, Kegan Serritt, and Matthew Williams serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 and Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 from 4 until 9 p.m. at Ponders Calhoun Chapel.
