Mrs. Emma Lois Curtis Jones, age 87, of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017. She was the widow of the late Fred Jones. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and retired from O. J. Mills. She was preceded in death by her sons, Clem Simpson, Lonnie Curtis; two sisters, Bertha Wyatt, Ella Mae Morris; brothers, Horace Curtis, Lionel Curtis; and one granddaughter, Kanetta Jones.
Survivors are her daughter, Shirley (Tommy) Benham; sons, Dan Curtis, Jerome Jones, Michael (Pamela) Jones of Calhoun, and Bishop Claud (Missionary Marlene) Jones of Dalton; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017 at 12 noon at Friendship Baptist Church, 452 West Line Street, Calhoun, Georgia, with Bishop Claud Jones and Pastor James Washington officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Her remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Friday after 11 a.m. Interment, Poplar Spring Cemetery. Mrs. Maudie Clark Parrott, 85, of Calhoun, died Thursday, July 27, 2017. She was born in Gordon County on Dec. 6, 1931, daughter of the late Ira Clark and Annie Norton Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Parrott; father of her children, Richard Sisson; her son, Randall Sisson; and grandchildren, Randy Pass and Gary Pass.
Mrs. Parrott was a member of Cove Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement from Coronet Industries, she was employed by Aldon Mills, King Textile, and Whitener Chenille.
She is survived by her son and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Melba Sisson and Betty Sisson; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Tony Newman; grandchildren, Zachary Newman, Hannah Priest, Derek Newman, Chase Newman, Tyron Black, Jason Sisson, Brandon Sisson, Anita Rhoden, and Kelly Stansell; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Maybelle and Alfred Knight.
The funeral service was conducted on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial followed at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving were Zach Newman, Duston Priest, Mike Dodd, Bill Dillard, Benny Hall, and Danny Hall. Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Gordon Healthcare.
The Parrott family received friends on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m.

Shirley Harris King, age 77, of Oostanaula, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Mt. Berry Hospice in Rome following an extended illness.
Shirley was born on Feb. 13, 1940, in Ringgold to the late Scott Harris and Ella Mae Allen Harris. She was a 1958 graduate of Ringgold High School and attended Reinhardt College. She was employed as an insurance agent and office manager for King Insurance Agency for 40 years. Most importantly, she was an avid and active member of West Union Baptist Church where she volunteered as the pianist for 56 years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Harris and his wife Jean Harris.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert King; son, Scott King and his wife Rhonda; daughter, Candace King Steele and her husband Richard D. Steele II of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; brother; Lamar Harris and his wife Sandra of Ft. Oglethorpe; five grandchildren, Bryn King Ramos and her husband Joe of Calhoun, Madyson King of Calhoun, Richard “Tripp” D. Steele III, R. King Steele and Sailor G. Steele all of New Smyrna Beach, Fla..
Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. from West Union Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the West Union Baptist Church cemetery. Cecil Terry, Hank Toole, Jeff Harris, Jason Harris, Frank Hutchinson, Mark Outlaw, Scott King and Mike Benfield will serve as pallbearers.

Steve “Pete” Allen Hancock, 57, of Pulaski, Tenn. and formerly of the Fairmount community, died July 25, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Gordon County on Nov. 3, 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clemon Hancock and Berta Lee Green Hancock; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie Mae and Ellis Owens, Wilma Jean and Ed Brookshire, Patsy and Ray Patterson, James Goble, and Calbert Cox; and brothers, John Hancock, Clayton Hancock, Curtis Hancock, and Jacky Hancock.
He is survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, Clarence Hancock of Fairmount, David Hancock of Fairmount, Gary and Nancy Hancock of Calhoun; sisters and brothers-in-law, Demple and Arvel Townsend of Fairmount, Sue Goble of Fairmount, Nancy Cox of Calhoun, and Glynese and Roy Pierce of Red Bud.
A memorial service, with military honors, will be held Saturday, Aug. 5 at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. The Hancock family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 until 4 p.m.
