Barbara Jo Harbour
Barbara Jo Harbour, age 85 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 in Gordon Hospital surrounded by her family.
Jo was born on Dec. 12, 1931 in Gordon County to the late Lum Greeson and Winnie Caroline Tatum Greeson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Bill Greeson, Tatum Greeson, June Holland, Robbie Greeson, Bennie Lee Barrett, Bonnie Hall and Myra Thornbrough; and beloved special nephews, Freddy Holland and Terry Greeson.
Barbara was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. Barbara Jo retired from Fafnir Bearings, where she loved and inspired so many co-workers.
Jo is survived by her husband, John A. Harbour of Calhoun; three daughters, Sue Ellen Thomas and her husband Bruce of Calhoun, Jeanne Hammontree and her husband Richard of Franklin, Tennessee, and Kim Harbour and her husband Randy Gilbert of Calhoun; five grandchildren, Christy Clyatt Sipple and her husband Harry, Cari Clyatt Wilkes and her husband Richard, Holly Hammontree Tondreau and her husband Patrick, Jordan Hammontree, and Johnathan Harbour; and four great-grandchildren, Kylee Tondreau, Harley Tondreau, Jackson Rothstein and Harbour Jane Wilkes. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were conducted at Heritage Baptist Church on Sunday, May 28 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Brent Davis officiating. Rebecca Owen, Faye Land and Kathy Faith had charge of music. Burial followed in Fain Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving were Byron Greeson, Kim McNeese, Zip Holland, Preston Aker, Kyle Brown, Hugh Hall, Donald Crump, and Eli Corona. Honorary Pallbearers were her co-worker friends from Fafnir Bearing.
The family received friends on Saturday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.

Ms. Julia Mae “Nanny” Herring, age 59, of Dalton, departed this life on Monday, May 29, 2017 at the local hospital. Nanny was born Sept. 18, 1957 in Painesville, Ohio. The daughter of the late Donald Green and Nola Iris Hissam.
Ms. Julia Mae Herring “Nanny” is survived by her son, Daniel Payne of Canton, GA; daughter, Lisa Moura of Calhoun, GA; fiancé, Lonnie Dewees of Dalton, GA; brothers, Delmar Green of Ellijay, GA, David Green; sisters, Jane Clever, Jennifer English; grandchildren, Jessie Raven Smith, Danni Smith, Kayle Smith, Hali Smith, Jake Smith, Allison Reeves, Hewson Reeves; great- grandchildren, Kayden Bennett and one on the way.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ms. Julia Mae “Nanny” Herring will be held, Saturday June 3, 2017 at 1 p.m. from Ponders Calhoun Chapel.

Betty Louise Henson Howell, age 75, of Ranger, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017 in Gordon Hospital following months of declining health.
Betty was born on Feb. 23, 1942 in Calhoun to the late Hubert and Bonnie Cook Henson. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard Henson and Jack Henson. She was a member of the Oakman United Methodist Church and the Hwy 411 Band.
Betty is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wayne Howell of Ranger, with whom they shared a love for their family and bluegrass music; he played guitar and she was a self-taught bass player; daughters, Marica Johnson and her husband Steven of Ranger, Amanda Todd and her husband David of Calhoun; Four grandchildren, Anthony Johnson and his wife Courtney, Stacy Grantham and her husband Zack of Ranger, Eli Todd and Luke Todd both of Calhoun; five great-grandchildren, Cayden Grantham, Carson Grantham, Callie Grantham, Alex Johnson and Nathan Johnson all of Ranger; five sisters, Loretta Poarch, Mozelle Sexton, Vickie Lambert all of Calhoun, Shirley Cross of Chickamauga and Deborah Edwards of Cartersville; one brother, Eddie Henson of Varnell.
Funeral Services were conducted on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Brother Gary Quarles and Reverend Genivieve DeHoog officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakman Ranger United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Willard Utah Sloan, age 84, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He loved wood carving and enjoyed his family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Pastor Lance Halick officiating. Interment will follow at Fain Cemetery in Calhoun.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at South Canton Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Dobson.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Barbara Sloan; son, David Sloan; daughters, Wanda Richardson, Nancy Wilhoit and Lisa Sloan; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren.

Chasteen Beasley Silvers, age 83 of Calhoun, died Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome.
Mrs. Silvers was born in St. Clair County, Ala. on June 26, 1933, daughter of the late Herschel and Ruby Henson Beasley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. B.W. Silvers in 2008; two brothers, Billy Joe Beasley and Buddy Beasley; and a grandson, Anthony Burton. She retired from Manning Mills in 2002.
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Ingram and her husband Stephen of Calhoun; one son, Markie Burton of Calhoun; two step-daughters, Judy Duncan and her husband Dennis and Dianne McBurnett and her husband Wayne of Calhoun; step sons, Jerry Silvers and his wife Linda of Calhoun and Adam Silvers and his wife Denice; a sister, Nina Yancey and her husband Clifford; grandchildren, Chris McGuire, Brittney McGuire, Cody McGuire, Christopher Ingram, Justin Ingram, Kaitlyn Ingram, April Silvers, Amy Burton, Andy Burton, Paula Parker, Melissa Sizemore, Jared Gray, and Jerry Wayne Silvers; along with several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Chasteen Beasley Silvers will be conducted Friday, June 2 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Adam Silvers officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Jerry Silvers, Jerry Wayne Silvers, Jared Gray, Alan Parker, Justin Ingram and Andy Burton.
