Calhoun, GA – Metroflor Corporation/Halstead was honored during Floor Covering Weekly magazine’s GreenStep Awards at a ceremony Sept. 13 in Dalton. The resilient flooring leader received the first-ever International Award, and its Chief Sustainability Officer Rochelle Routman was the honoree for the Pinnacle Award. Now in its ninth year, the GreenStep Awards program was developed to honor and elevate the many initiatives, investments and efforts the floor covering industry puts toward making a positive impact on the environment.
Said Floor Covering Weekly Editor in Chief Amy Rush-Imber in presenting the International Award, “Metroflor/Halstead’s positive impact on sustainability influences an entire continent. The company has created a ripple effect because of its sustainability and transparency focus, which extends through the entire organization, far beyond its Calhoun, Georgia campus, all the way to its Elegant Plastics factory in Zhangjiagang, China.
“The company conducts rigorous testing to ensure safety of materials. Product certification is also extensive. Beyond materials health, Metroflor has extended transparency into the Chinese manufacturing facilities by inviting customers to see for themselves the environmental and social aspects of how it runs its business.”
Of Pinnacle Honoree Routman, Rush-Imber said, “Rochelle has brought a new dimension to the sustainability discussion in the corporate sector during her 30-year career, creating a coalition among the for-profit, nonprofit and governmental sectors. She has driven and changed the conversation about sustainability in the building products industry to draw attention to material ingredients and transparency. In addition to the many contributions to sustainability at Halstead and the industry at large, Rochelle brings a drive and passion to the field.”
“We are very humbled and honored to receive the 2017 GreenStep award from FCW in the International category,” said Harlan Stone, Metroflor/Halstead’s Group CEO. “This reflects the outstanding leadership that our Chief Sustainability Officer, Rochelle Routman, has displayed in her first year with our company. It is amazing to me how much progress we have made in the last year towards a more transparent and committed enterprise to the benefits and values of sustainability. This is only the beginning!”
