Local Scout troop holds sack lunch fundraiser

Boy Scout Troop 22 held their annual ‘BBQ Sack Lunch’ fundraiser on Monday, Nov. 20. The Scouts solicited orders ahead of time from various individuals and businesses in Calhoun and surrounding communities. The morning of Nov. 20, Scouts, leaders and parent volunteers met at Calhoun First United Methodist Church to assemble barbecue sandwiches, sauce, baked beans, chips, home-baked brownies, and pickles into individual bags and began deliveries at 11 a.m. They then dispersed in pairs, with adult drivers, to deliver all orders within a two-hour time frame.  Monies garnered from net sales allow the troop to purchase much needed equipment and supplies for camping and other events during the year. During the course of this fundraising campaign, the Scouts learned about salesmanship, goal-setting, mass production, cost-analysis and how to create an effective assembly line. Troop 22 is sponsored by Calhoun First United Methodist Church.
