The Georgia State Patrol is investigating two separate, single-vehicle accidents that both resulted in death on Highway 136 in the Nicklesville area this weekend.
According to Sgt. Kris Hemphill with the GSP, around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, troopers responded to a single vehicle accident involving a Nissan Frontein on Highway 136 near Ralston's Corner. An unidentified man in his 50's, who witnesses say was driving erratically in the area, ran off the road, over corrected, crossed the highway and hit a tree head on. The Frontier burst into flames and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The GBI Crime Lab has the body and is working to make a positive identification.
On Sunday, Dec. 4, sometime after 8:30 p.m., a 2001 Ford Ranger, driven by 70-year old Jerry Clark, of Hufstetler Road in Resaca, was traveling west on Highway 136 West near Freeman Road when, for unknown reasons, he ran off the road, struck a culvert in a private driveway, struck a fence, a utility pole and finally a tree before coming to rest. Clark was transported by Gordon EMS to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Both accidents are still under investigation.
