Gordon County Schools have released the schedule for their 2016-2017 Driver’s Education Program classes.
Classes will be offered at Sonoraville High School on Nov. 28-30 and Dec. 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8. There will also be classes held at Gordon Central High School on Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9. The program will return to Sonoraville on April 17-20 and 24-27.
Six hours of driving time are required, and will be scheduled on an individual basis.
The program is open to any student that possesses a learner’s permit, but they must have the permit on the first day of class.
The classes will run for eight days, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thirty hours of classroom time is required to complete the course. Students must make sure they can attend all classes before they sign up. Any classes that are missed must be made up on a future date. If you miss the first day of the requested class, you are required to schedule another date.
Students are required to bring paper and a pencil or pen to each session. They must also bring their learner’s permit with them.
The class limit is 25 students. The first applications turned in with the deposits will be assured a spot in the class.
Registration for the course costs $250. A non-refundable deposit of $50 must be turned in with the application. The balance will be due on the first day of class.
Checks should be made payable to G.C.B.O.E.-Community Education.
Applications should be turned in a week ahead of the class date. Applications and deposits can be turned into either school. Turn them in to Ms. Steward at Gordon Central or Ms. White at Sonoraville. They can also be handed in to the Transportation Department on Dews Pond Road to Dr. Gina Daniel or Pam Stewart.

Classes that fail to meet the minimum number of students will be cancelled. If the class is cancelled, students will be notified by email or phone call.
Behind the Wheel Instruction is also now offered by the Gordon County Schools Driver’s Education Program. The course costs $190 with a non-refundable deposit of $5 with the application.
A copy of the certificate signifying the completed 30 hours of classroom or online course completion must be submitted with the application.
