ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Central Office in Atlanta and career centers in the areas included in Gov. Nathan Deal’s State of Emergency for Disaster Preparedness declaration will close today, Friday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m.  The declaration is because of the possibility of extreme winter conditions in the affected 78-county area.

The career centers in the affected area are in Americus, North Metro Atlanta, South Metro Atlanta, Athens, Augusta, Blue Ridge, Carrollton, Cartersville, Cedartown, Clayton County, Cobb-Cherokee, Columbus, Covington, Dalton, Gainesville, Griffin, Gwinnett County, Habersham Area, Houston County, LaFayette, LaGrange, Macon, Milledgeville, Newnan, Rome, Thomson and Toccoa.

The GDOL will reopen when weather permits.

The public is encouraged to monitor the GDOL web site at gdol.ga.gov for continuous updates on schedules for career centers and other offices.

What do you think should happen with the Calhoun Police Station?

The current Calhoun Police Station has been found to have harmful mold, asbestos and lead paint within its walls. The City of Calhoun had many options to choose from: rehabbing the current police station to bring it up to health standards; renting a building for the police to use as a station or buying property and building a station. The City Calhoun has dwindled those choices down to: purchasing the Fred's building and property on Curtis Parkway near the Calhoun Primary / Elementary school OR building on land offered to the City of Calhoun free of charge on McDaniel Station Road, across from the future site of the GBI Regional Facility. What do you think the City should do??
