According to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, the death of an inmate who died late last week while in custody at the Gordon County Jail does not appear to be from foul play.
At 3 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, jailors found the man, identified as 28-year-old William Bradley Ballew, of 382 Moores Ferry Road, in his cell having difficulty breathing. The jailors began administering CPR as well as utilizing an AED device. Gordon County EMS responded to the scene and transported the inmate to Gordon Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the ER.
The death is thought to be the result of cardiac arrest.
The family was notified immediately of the event. The GBI is handling the investigation per state law and autopsy results are expected to be available by Wednesday due to the long holiday weekend.
Ballew was serving a sentence for violation of probation.
The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office will issue a full statement concerning the death once autopsy results are released.
