July is National Parks and Recreation month, and the Calhoun Recreation Department is hosting the Dog Days of Summer fundraising event on Saturday, July 22 from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Calhoun Park, located on McDaniel Station Road in Calhoun.

The event will include vendors, demos and various contests, which begin at 10:30 a.m., for pooches and their owners, including Fastest in Calhoun Small Breed, Fastest in Calhoun Large Breed, Best Costume, Owner Pet Look-a-Like, Only a Face a Mother Could Love and Best Trick.

Registration for the contests can be made prior to the event, or 30 minutes prior to the contest.

All contest entries are $5 per contest, per dog. All money raised will go to the Gordon County Animal Shelter.

Booths are available for rent that day for $20 per vendor/rescue group/local club.

Donations will be accepted throughout the day for both the Calhoun City and Gordon County Animal Shelters.
